How to Start (And Grow) a Blog

Today I’m going to show you how to start a blog. And how to grow it in 2022.

Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll learn:

The first section of the video is all about setting the foundation for your blog’s growth. Most people jump right into WordPress, install a bunch of plugins, etc. But the most successful blogs grow strategically.

Next, I show you why traditional blog posts don’t work anymore. And why Power Posts work way better for getting traffic and shares from your blog content. In fact, this is the strategy that I use to grow the Backlinko blog. And it still works.

Last up, you’ll learn how to promote your blog using a bunch of different tested strategies (including the most important of all: building your email list).

So now only will you learn how to start a blog from scratch. But I’ll also show you actionable tips that you can use to grow your blog as well. I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Blogging is becoming less worth it. Here is why. I wrote 50 articles on one blog. I stated getting almost 10,000 views. People were reading my blog pretty well, good stats, decent time spent on reading articles, evergreen topic. I kept writing until 110 articles. And then google updates happened. And my traffic fell to slightly over 1000 views in a WEEK. WHy? My industry has not changed. Not in one week for sure. Essentially, google switched off many small bloggers – that's what I have realized after reading many complains on the internet from small bloggers who lost traffic almost overnight. SO, I wrote about 10 more articles – no change in traffic. Then, there is that – you must overhaul about 30% of your blog articles every year. If you have 300 articles, you will need to re-research and rewrite 100 existing articles, instead of writing new ones. Its just not worth the hustle anymore. Maybe only for established blogs with 1000s of articles who are making millions and can afford 10-20 writers working full time for them.

  2. Are you saying I don't have to use WordPress? I just left WordPress because of maintenance issues. Started blogging on Kajabi and everyone is saying it won't grow because I'm not using WordPress. 😭

  3. I've been spending so much time lately watching these types of videos. I'm constantly skipping through them to try to to find the protein, the value, the actual information I'm looking for without wasting all my time on youtube. Buddy your videos are so informative i'm constantly pausing so I can take notes.

  4. I am studying to become an SEO Content writer for B2B and have taken a few courses along that path. This 12 minute video just opened a whole new vision for me that nobody else even touched on. I think I now have a means of making myself standout from the rest of my classmates. Thank you Brian. I love your videos!
